This is my 3rd tattoo done by Clarens at Por Vida Tattoo in Upland, CA. I got this tattoo on my left forearm to cover the scars I have from when I went through a deep depression. This tattoo was inspired by the my grandmother who is represented by the middle bird. The other two birds are my sister and my best friend.

So the shortish version of why I have this, with all these advancements in technology, we’re losing human to human contact. We’re riding the line of becoming cold, drone-like machines. Which kind of ties into a song “Three Wishes” by The Pierces. “We’d be so less fragile, if we’re made from metal and our hearts from iron and our minds from steel. And if we built an armor for our tender bodies could we love each other? Would we strive to feel?”. I’m completely in love with it. Done by Mike Helz. Stingray Body Art, Allston MA.

“I’ve got friends by my side, I’ve got hope in my eyes and dreams to aspire to…”- The Amity Affliction- I hate hartley. Spent a year trying to figure out how to get it tattoo’d on me, where I wanted it etc. Finally realised that in the shape of the infinity symbol would be perfect on the inside of my arm. These words have spoken true for me over the last year, and getting them tattoo’d was quite a proud momoent! Bad Apples tattoo’s in Brisbane Australia did it for me.

The quote represents despite of all the hard times in my life i’m still standing tall with a smile on face regardless of what happens. The bird represents my mom who passed away 8 years ago, her death was the biggest impact on my life.

My first tattoo, on my ankle, done last summer. Very spur of the moment but a year later I still love it even more than the tattoo I took time to plan out. It’s the symbol for “Hakuna Matata”, and to me it not only represents my love for The Lion King, but also my easy-going approach to life. When I’m stressed it always reminds me to keep my cool and have no worries. To me the fact that I got it so spontaneously makes it even more perfect. My best friend got the same tattoo (it was actually his idea) only his is about 3 times larger and further up on his calf. <3

Correction: The “this too shall pass” EKG tattoo belongs to acciolesbians, and is apparently even in her handwriting. The ripoff has been removed. Thanks to the people who e-mailed me, and I’m sorry to acciolesbians for not catching it before it was published.

Why did I choose this tattoo?
During summer, I actually rung up a customer that had it (it was on her neck so it was more noticeable) and I fell in love with it but I was too young to get a tattoo and I know for sure that my parents wouldn’t give parental consent to get one so I had to wait until I turned 18.
I wanted a feather and birds because the picture itself gives off a lot of qualities I value. Like when I go to the beach and see birds fly, they seem so free, independent, and peaceful. I also love feathers in general :)
The quote “Trust my struggles” is a little like saying “Everything happens for a reason” but in a different way. I feel like when something tragic happens to me, I first become upset but believe that it happened for a reason to make me become a stronger person in this world. It also makes me think more positively; failure just brings more experience and may possibly even open up opportunities depending on the situation—which ties in with trusting the obstacles I go through.
The feather and birds intertwine with the quote because after an obstacle comes the strengthening of peace and independence.
